Each profile is developed using reputable secondary sources, including:
University archives and institutional publications
State historical encyclopedias
Museum collections and cultural institutions
Established Black history research organizations
Representative institutions consulted during research include the Smithsonian Institution, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, and state-level historical encyclopedias such as the New Georgia Encyclopedia.
Profiles are written in accessible narrative form for general audiences while remaining grounded in documented historical records.
